“Copper Star” is a well-written, engaging novel that roped me in from the start. As a historical fiction author myself, I’m always alert to the ways other authors weave in their research, and Fisher’s writing is nearly seamless as she blends the story and the history together. Her characters are likeable, her story is different and intriguing, and I highly recommend this novel not only for entertainment value, but for educational merit as well. I now want to learn all I can about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the real-life Resistance worker whose story inspired this book.

“Copper Fire” is just as well-researched and well-written as its prequel, “Copper Star,” but I do believe I enjoyed “Copper Star” just a little bit more. “Copper Fire” was a little disjointed for me, in how we went from life in Arizona, over to the brutality of the German camps, back to Arizona. Those transitions were a little abrupt for me, and I would have liked to seen a little more of Germany while Louisa was over there. That said, I finished the book in one day and found it intriguing, entertaining, and a satisfying read all around.
