Hello and welcome!

You might be wondering what a girl from California is doing writing about the Amish. Good question! Let me fill in a few background details for you …
My relatives on my mother’s side are German Baptists, also known as Dunkards. That’s where my interest in Anabaptist traditions began. My grandfather was born into a family of 11 children, started his career as a teacher in a one-room school house in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and ended it as one of the very first publishers of Christianity Today. We called him “Deardad” even though he was a rather stern fellow. Still, Deardad’s life inspired me to write. I remember one time, in college, I was in the library and found old CT magazines with my grandfather’s name on the masthead. It gave me goosebumps…to see how the written word endured.
Well there you have it … I welcome any other questions or comments you might have! Please visit the Contact Page and send me a note.
Something new! If you would like a signed bookplate or bookmarks, send me your address and I’ll pop them in the mail for you.
Are you in a book club? E-mail me for discussion questions and ideas to jazz up your event. I would be happy to send along some fun things to make it an Amish-themed evening: an Amish cookbook, a quilted potholder, my bookmarks and/or postcards…that sort of thing. If interested, I’d be happy to chime in via speaker phone. And if you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area and can give me enough lead time, I might even try to come…schedule permitting.
