In our families, grandmothers and grandparents are called Mamaws and Papaws but our 8 month old granddaughter may have another idea. I have waited many years to have a grandchild so my name won’t matter!

De anna & I switch a few letters, Nanna Dea so, I’d like to be called

I’m Grammy – same as my kids called my mom.
My name is Damaw or Gamaw to my 4 beautiful grandchildren!
My first grandson couldn’t say Grammy so he called me Mammy and it stuck. He’s now 13 and his brother is 9 and I love them both to death!! It’s now been shortened to Mam
When my first granddaughter, Annabel, was first talking, she called me MooMoo. I thought it was cute, but her mother didn’t like it. So it got changed to Grandma when Annabel was about 4.

When our granddaughter was a bit younger than 1 1/2, she couldn’t say “Grandma” so she called both of her grandmothers “Yaya”. Then she moved closer to our son-in-law’s family, and she quickly learned to say “Grandma” and “Grandpa”. I stayed “Yaya” and my husband stayed “Poppa”–easier to distinguish between the 2 sets of grandparents.
She will be 10 in February and has 2 younger brothers (our daughter’s children). Our son has 2 children who are also calling us (or learning to call us) Yaya and Poppa. It’s fun, it’s different, and it helps us stay fairly-young! 😉
I am Mimi – started out to be Grammy but my oldest grandson couldn’t say it so it was shortened/changed to Mimi. I am blessed to be a young Mimi with 4 beautiful grandkiddos!
I have plenty of nicknames for my granddaughter, but I have always been Grandma. I didn’t encourage any nicknames, and she has always been able to talk plainly. She is only 2, and has been speaking grammatically-correct full sentences with college-level vocabulary for some time. Of course, she learns it from her mom and me, and can carry on real conversations with most people who do not treat her like a baby. For instance, today I remarked that her hair kind of looked like Einstein, and she was offended. I asked her if she had ever seen Einstein, and she said, “Yes, at Dad’s house.” I said, “I don’t think there are any Einsteins at Dad’s house.” She replied, “Oh, yes, there is! It’s the neighbor’s dog!”
I am always called grandma in Canada by my 3 grandkids who live in Wooster, Ohio (Wayne County, Amish country). It doesn’t matter where we are, in a store, restaurant, sports events, etc. Even my 14 year old grandson still calls me grandma in Canada many times very loudly. Have had many strange looks from people who hear them yelling loudly in public grandma from Canada. They have called me this from the time they could talk.
I’m Mimi, and my husband is Poppi. 🙂
My 8 grandkids call me Mimi Muffin
I am Grammie to my grandkids — with an “ie” to match my name Debbie, not with a “y” like the award.
I called my maternal grandmother Mow Mow (rhyme that with Cow Cow, not a long /o/). Her sister was called Moo Moo (yes, the sound a cow makes) and her sister-in-law was MeeMaw. When they all got together, It was Mow Mow, Moo Moo and MeeMaw, lol. Say that fast! My paternal grandmother was Nanny. I was the only one that called her that, my cousins called her Grandmother.
When my first grandchild came along I suggested Memaw for two reasons.
First having two grandmothers I felt Grandma Margaret was to much of a mouth full for a little one. Second being a transplanted southerner I figured Memaw would be really different and I guess I should add a third reason. Memaw is easy to say. That was true until my first great grandchild came along, Isaiah called me Me-moe-moe .
My five grandkids just call me Grandma. I did like the name Grammy but my son-in-law’s mother picked that when we were deciding names seven years ago. Then I liked Mimi but my other son-in-law’s grandmother was called that. My mom is Nana to her grandkids and great-grandkids so that was out. So I just decided on Grandma since I couldn’t figure out any other name.
My grandchildren call me Mama but my Great granddaughter call me Nonnie!
My grandmother was Mammaw, my Mom is MawMaw, my mother-in-law was MeMaw, so I had to come up with something new. My Grandkids call me MeMe.
I decided to let my first grandchild name me. That was hard because my grandmothers were Grammie, which I love but it has sentimental value to me and I would not like to be called that, then my other grandmother was Grandma, then my children’s grandmother was named by her first grandchild, Mamaw. It is very hard to live up to the name already used, but I am Mamaw.

Luv Luv the Amish stories. Just recently spent overnite in Lancaster Pa. among the Amish. Just love it.
I became a grandma, by my husband’s oldest daughter, at only 34! I felt way to young (and COOL) to be called anything that sounded even remotely grandma-ish! And so I became Lolli! My husband goes by Pop and so together, we are Lollipop!

I was MawMaw until the oldest granddaughter came down to visit and she called me Grandma. Now they all call me Grandma.
My grandson calls me MIMI! I love the sign. I would love to have it! Where can I get it?
2 call me grandma, 1 calls me buela (abuela) and one goes between grandma, nana, grammie…the other 3 don’t talk yet, but can’t wait to hear what they choose!
We city cousins called her Grandma and the country cousins called her Mammaw. But we all loved her dearly.
