Years ago, my husband coached CYO basketball for my youngest son’s team. Yesterday, a story trickled to me from the head coach of CYO. At the end of each season, the head coach would ask the volunteer coaches to gather the boys’ CYO jerseys and leave them on his porch. Most everyone would leave dirty, sweaty jerseys in a bag on his porch. He remembered that Steve, my husband, would bring the jerseys washed and folded, ring the doorbell of the head coach’s home, and take a minute to thank him for the season.
To my husband, it was such a small thing! But this head coach remembered.
And in a way, it wasn’t a small thing. Steve was thinking about the next person in line to handle the jerseys (the head coach).
There’s a metaphor in that.
Today, think about the “next person in your line.” What can you do to make life a little bit easier for that person?

I don’t know if this counts since it is family. My daughter is a school teacher and she is also doing grad school online. Usually every Thursday, I go for a visit and I get her groceries for her so she doesn’t have to do her grocery shopping. It really doesn’t seem like much but to my daughter it is a big help.
I think that’s a wonderful way of providing hands-on-help, Debra!
When a neighbor came home from the hospital, I planted plants in her window boxes. She was so pleased.
Debbie Hazelton–what a lovely, lovely thing to do. Flowers are like ice cream…they make everyone smile!
My brother and his wife have 2 rambunctious boys, and she loves to sew, which is not easy to do with all that energy around. So, I sometimes take them for a few hours – she gets some sewing done and I have fun with the boys.
I work with special needs children. Whether I work the morning shift or the afternoon, I always make sure my log sheets are completed and my work areas are cleaned up. I also give a quick review to my relief. This makes it so much easier on the incoming employees.
I also work with Learning Disabled kiddos (average or above average kiddos with reading difficulties). Recently, they had a Science fair at school in their regular ed. classrooms. Most of them come from low-income families. I provided everything they needed to complete their experiments. The fifth graders also get a list from the middle school of what they need for sixth grade. I purchase everything on the list for each of my fifth graders – binders, paper, pencils and pens, erasers, rulers, colored pencils, etc. It’s not much, but it helps out the parents who can’t afford everything they need. Have a blessed day! 🙂
