How do you keep such a strong faith with God ?
I would ask… “What is your most favorite and least favorite thing about living in an Amish community?”
Do you find most of the English community respectful of the Amish, or do you find us more disrespectful? And what would you want us to know about your beliefs and way of life that might help us understand you as a community more?
My question to an Amish person is:
Do people over 50 ever inquire about entering the Amish community and joining the church?
How do you manage to handle the twenty-first century changes and continue with your lives and beliefs?
With the mandatory Obamacare, do you have to buy insurance? Or is the Amish exempt?
Do you ever wander what it would be like to live English and would you want to?
I would ask if I could come and stay with them for a summer and learn the Amish ways of baking and farming and other things that they do.
I would just like to ask…How does the Amish woman deal with the occasionally abusive Amish man?
Did you ever imagine your life being any different?
What do you really think of the outside world and what it’s doing to your children?
How do your keep yourself grounded in your faith, do you ever feel the temptation to leave your faith and want to live an English lifestyle?
A question for an Amish person in the age range 30 years old and above. What is the one thing you find the hardest to handle with all of the new technology of today’s times?
As women, I presume we are the same in a lot of ways. We all have those days when we just don’t WANT to cook, clean, do laundry, or any of those other things that never seem to be completed. How do you motivate yourself to do what has to be done?
Do you sometimes wish that the world could be a much more peaceful. That people would just stop and take a good look at what they have and what they could have if they just keep their faith?
I would ask “how do you keep so serene always?”
What is the difference between forgiving someone who has done wrong against you, such as murder as in the school house shooting, and not being able to forgive family members who have done wrong and are being shunned?
How do you stay so calm when besieged by rude tourists taking pictures?
I love to read the amish stories and would ask what do you really feel about shunning, should not folks just forgive and let them begin again to do better?
Do you think it’s harder to be Amish in 2014 as opposed to years ago?
How do you get everything done without modern conveniences?
How do you feel about the number of books currently being published about Amish life? Do you read any of them? If so your favorite authors?

How was your church denomination founded? Who were the founding fathers? And how is a pastor chosen if he’s never been to school of ministry?
Do the Amish ever wonder why the Englisch are so interested in their way of life but the Amish don’t really care to know about the Englisch way of life? Do the Amish really believe that their way is the best way? Or is it just tradition?
If I could spend enough time with the Amish I’d like to learn Pa. Dutch and how to hand quilt. I’d like to learn the language because my grandparents spoke it and the younger generations never learned it. I’d like to learn to hand quilt because I really admire the art form and that seems to be dying off also.
Do you ever wonder what it would be like to have more education then the 8th grade?
How long does it take to make a kapp? Or there beautiful dresses.

What is the hardest work you do?
Do you ever wish you could continue your education, especially if it would be for the good of the community. Such as studying yo be a vet in a community were a vet isn’t readily available.
I would ask if they ever have doubts about their religious training or if they accept it without question.
I would ask an Amish person, would you like to know how you can know for sure that when you die you will immediately be in the presence of Jesus?

do you quilt. I love the amish quilts. Hope it is not a dying art.
Why do each districts have different rules for their members. Some bishops are more lenient then others and the ladies seem to have certain rules for prayer caps, like pleats and such. And do the women’s dresses have to be so long and in such dark colors…especially in the summer…..I would think lighter and possibly a bit shorter dresses would be allowed, as long as they were respectful.
How do they keep the teenagers’ heads from being turned by all the technology when they are on Rumspringa?

I would ask if they were related to me…I just recently found out I am descended from the Amish and “Dunkards”. Somewhere along the line one of them married an Irish person and broke from the church.

My question that I would ask would ask is how do you handle the really cold days that we have had this year.
I think living in a community set apart from the world would be a great way to maintain faith in The Lord.
My question is, how can you keep warm enough in your horse-drawn buggies in the middle of the freezing cold of winter? Cars have heaters and offer great protection from the elements.
My question would be: Are there still arranged marriages or do you feel free to date whomever you want?

I have a hard time knowing what to ask because my family lives among the Amish and have for years so any questions I have I ask them but I would love to sit down and just talk to Amish. Their ability to forgive is what truly amazes me. I think one of my questions would be where their faith and loyalty is? I know they believe in God but a lot of their leaders make the decisions for them is that right? How many of them have their own strong beliefs and how many of them do as the leaders say? I could say that of Christians, I could say that of myself, how much of my faith is what I truly believe in and how much is how I’ve been raised. This question I’ve been thinking about for a long time and it applies to Amish as well. I also think I’d love to sit and talk with the women and get all of their tips on laundry, house keeping, cooking and that sort of thing! Truly intrigued by Amish and have a very high respect for them!
I would like to ask an Amish person, do they have hex signs on their farms? They are so popular in the stores in Lancaster, but the farms never seem to have them.

My questions would be – do you ever get angry about something – how do you handle and deal with that anger. Also do you ever discipline your children and how do your go about doing this.

I would ask about Rumspringa
In so many of the Amish fiction books I’ve read, the young people are getting married at 16, 17, 18 and considered old maids by21 or 22. Is this true, and if so, with divorce not an option, are these marriages really happy?
How do you explain why God let’s a child die or have a serious illness? I’ve been asking this a lot lately as I have a 3 year old granddaughter with neuroblastoma – a rare childhood cancer that basically strikes children under 5. I’ve pondered this before but when it became personal it’s the question I keep searching for an answer to.
Do you ever want to escape all the cooking, house work, etc. & go on vacation like we Englishers do?
Do you ever wish you could use print fabric for your dresses, and not have to wear long sleeves in the summer.

I think most Amish have at least one midwife to help with deliveries. Are you only allowed to go to a hospital if there is a danger to the mother or baby?
What is the most annoying thing Englishers do when they visit?
Because they have no divorce, I would ask how a wife makes a marriage tolerable when the love disappears and the husband demeans her. All those long marriages can’t be perfect, some must have a hard time living with their chosen mate. After 27 years of a miserable marriage and 9 years with an ulcer caused by such stress, my husband left me. Once I got over the shock of his actually leaving and divorcing me (for another woman), I finally realized that I was better off without him and healthier. However, I had vowed never to divorce and being divorced still bothers me 18 years later.
I have always wondered…….Does an Amish man sleep with the blankets over his beard or under his beard?

I know that they don’t participate in wars or aren’t as concerned with political issues as we are. I’d like to ask them what their thoughts are of what is happening in our world today? Do they follow the news? Discuss among themselves the possibility of terrorist attacks etc? Being such peace loving people, I’ve often wonder if they even give it much thought.

My question would be… How do you keep track of your genealogy? I am very interested in finding out about their ancestors. The Hutterites have a book that is updated each year and goes back to 1772. There are a lot of cross-overs with the Hutterites, Mennonites, and Amish.

I admire the Amish way of living enormously. I would love to live like they live. When we visited the Ohio community in Holmes County I was amazed at how well organized they were. I noticed the children were happy and even the babies in their mother’s arms in the stores that we visited seemed so serene! I would love to know the secret to that peace that they exude. I would dearly love to go back there and stay as a guest in one of their farm houses.
