They made it to 13,000 feet and had to turn back. A lack of snow had made the shale very slippery and unstable, and one pass was closed.

Oh, so close! They nearly made it into the exclusive “Fourteener” Club (hardy souls who climb mountains over 14,000 feet).

But… I’m glad they used good judgment.

My son said that my husband was already complaining about his achey knees and that I should expect to hear more complaints for a week or so. Oh joy.

He also said the altitude was really an odd thing…they had to stop every 20 feet or so to catch their breath.

Not sure if they’re going to be planning another trip in the near future. They sounded exhausted.

But they did it!
