Petit Soleil is a bed and breakfast in San Luis Obispo, California. The owners, John and Dianne Conner, took an aging motel, gave it their special magic, and reinvented it into the most charming, beautiful, European-style B&B in the U.S.

Each room is imaginatively decorated in a different French theme: Van Gogh, Cocolat, Cote d’ Azure.

My daughter worked part-time at Petit Soleil while she was in college, then became the assistant manager when she graduated, then the manager. She learned so much about running a small business from the Conners, dealing with all kinds of problems (including people problems)…and man o’ man, can that girl cook and bake! Petit Soleil’s breakfasts are legendary. It’s really my favorite getaway spot.

In Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal, Petit Soleil was given a write-up: the best place to stay when one is in San Luis Obispo, California.

How about that?!

Check it out: Petit Soleil.
