I always thought that phrase was kind of schmaltzy…”This is the first day of the rest of your life.”

But today, my 23-year-old son, a recent college graduate, (the one in the header pix today) starts his career. It feels momentous…different than most first days of work…knowing he will be working for many years to come.

I’m one of those persons who loves to work–I enjoy the mental stimulation of work, I like being busy, and I feel there’s a deep satisfaction that comes with work well done.

My prayer for my kids has always been that they would find the kind of work they are meant to do…the kind that you would do even if you don’t get paid for it (sort of like…writing!).

The kind that doesn’t feel like work.
