This year marks the 50th anniversary of the novel Christy by Catherine Marshall. It’s a book that impacted Christian fiction in a powerful way…kind of kicked it into place. There’s been a lot of fanfare to celebrate Christy’s birthday–facebook party, and a bunch of author testimonials, like the awkward one below.

I read Christy in high school and loved it. I proceeded to read everything my local library had by Catherine Marshall (this was in the days before interlibrary loan and online book stores). Years later, my daughter also loved Christy and the TV series based on the book. Thank you for reminding me about Catherine Marshall. I am off to see if I can find books that I missed and it might be time for a re-read of my old paperback copy of Christy too while waiting for Phoebe’s Light.
I DID read Christy! It was SOOO good! It was so wholly different from what I expected and SO much better! My sisters and I had watched the Christy movies and LOVED them (and I mean the ones with Kelly Martin, not those new ones, which make it all go downhill and don’t even compare.)
But reading the book! I borrowed a copy from my sister to read it (but have since then obtained my own) and I couldn’t put it down!! It has made its way onto my favorites shelf and I DEFINITELY recommend it as a terrific read for all ages!!

I have read “Christy” several years ago. I still have the book on the shelf. I also watched the TV series that was on several years ago.
I love Christy! It is one of my favorite books….one I read at least once a year!
I’ve read Christy a couple of times and other books by Catherine Marshall. Christy’s love for God along with her determination to make a difference impacted me way back then. I have my hard cover of Christy from the 1960’s.
After reading the story when I was younger, I was thrilled to introduce Christy to my two oldest daughters through the TV series. They fell in love with the stories, the scenery and the messages. The girls then read the book and the circle seemed complete.
Years later, we had a third daughter who discovered the series so we watched the episodes all over again. I’ve enjoyed revisiting Christy over the years and seeing the wonderful impact the stories have had on my family. Though they took place long ago, they still have teachable moments that resonate with a new generation.
It has been a long while since I have read “Christy,” but I remember really enjoying it! Hearing you talk about it has inspired my interest in finding my book and reading it again!
