I hope you all changed your clocks back an hour last Sunday. It’s the only morning in the year when you are given a priceless gift: an extra hour.
I’ve read that one of the best ways to simplify your life is to cut back on your workday by ten percent. In other words, end your day an hour earlier (easy to do this week!). Doing so, this author found it tended to keep her focused, helped her prioritize tasks, and encouraged her to pay attention to how she spent her time. She wrote that she was so surprised at how much her productivity increased that she gradually cut back another hour or so, with little loss in production and great increase in satisfaction.
I’m thinking about trying it this week. It is surprising how much you can accomplish when you feel just the right amount of pressure. Not too much . . . but just a little.
What are your thoughts? Do you think you would get more done if you cut your work day by an hour? Or . . . are you planning to use that extra hour for sleep? (Not judging! I’d sleep in if I could . . . but I’m the up-with-the-rooster type.)
