Did you know Scotch tape did not originate in Scotland? And it was invented by accident?
The Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, better known today as 3M, tried to save a few bucks and started using a cheaper adhesive on their sticky tape. Apparently, a customer complained that the tape was “Scotch” ( a derogatory word meaning cheap or stingy). The tape was kept and the name Scotch just “stuck.” (Sorry for the pun!)

I am thankful for make-up, hair dryers & things to fix my hair with. I would not be able to go out in public without my hair fixed & my face fixed, I guess I’m a little vain, lol!
I’m signed up for your blog updates. 🙂 I don’t know of any accidental inventions, but I do have a connection to the invention of tv — Philo T. Farnsworth was best friends with my grandfather’s oldest brother. They were inseparable and experimented a lot with electricity. We have a favorite family story of them electrifying the floor in one of the cellar rooms. Some versions say Grandpa was the guinea pig to step on the floor, others say it was the middle brother. Regardless, whichever brother it was got a bit of a shock!
I’m already signed up for your blogs.
The invention of social media on the internet is awesome. It is a great invention, without it we couldn’t do these cool giveaways.
I have signed up for your blog
Not connected to any inventions, at my age just keeping up the constant changes of the computer and cell phones is about all I can handle….
I just signed up for your blog. One newer invention that I like and use every day is my Keurig. My husband is a coffee drinker, but I use it for the hot water for tea. Very convenient!
I’m thankful for Duct tape! I use it all the time! I’m already signed up for your blog.
I signed up for your blogs a long time ago. I guess my favorite invention would be electricity. Without it we wouldn’t be able to do a lot of things. I know several years ago when we were hit with a hurricane we were without electricity for 8 days which meant for us no water too as we lived in the country and we needed electricity to run our well pump. You don’t realize how much you rely on something till it isn’t there.
I am already signed up for your blog, and I’m very thankful for my laptop computer! Met my best friend on here and talk to her quite often on it. 🙂
I’m already signed up for your blog! I am thankful for “post-it” notes! And, baby wipes, and Velcro!
I am thankful for authors who write Amish books!!! I love reading fiction & non-fiction Amish books!!!
I signed up for your blog. I think the invention I’m thankful for the most is electricity. I don’t know what we would do without it. I have been without electricity and had to cook on a wood stove several times during the winter time. In the summer I have used our grill when our electric gone out as well. We made it without for a few days at a time but just don’t know if I could make all the time without it. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this book. God Bless!
I get your email already, but I arrived here from Facebook (as you know). I’m always happy to learn something new. Thanks for the chance to win the book, too.

I am sure that many of the things we use today were created purely by accident — but oh how I love many of them, including Scotch tape.
That was interesting! Never knew how Scotch tape came to be. There are probably a LOT of things that were invented by accident that we’re not even aware of. It’s fun to learn about them.
Please enter me in your giveaway. Thanks!
I am already signed up for your blog! Your book sounds good! I can’t wait to read it!

I already receive your blog. I am grateful for the computer and FaceTime with granddaughters.
I am signed up to get your email updates. 🙂 I don’t know of any accidental inventions…unless it comes to new recipes – those happen all the time at my house! The invention I’m most thankful it exists is life-support (although I’m sure that uses more than one invention) because, without it I wouldn’t still be here!
Oh! I thought of an “Accidental” invention – Play-doh! When it was first invented, it was wallpaper cleaner to get rid of soot from coal, but when people stopped using coal, there wasn’t a market for the cleaner. They reworked it and it eventually became Play-doh. 🙂
I already signed up for your blog and I love reading your books! Keep on writing!
I’ve signed up for your blog a long time ago! Thanks for the offer!
I already signed up for your blog. The invention I can think of is laptops and tablets they sure come in handy in my Avon business, Whoever come up with websites were very helpful now I has need to promote my websites.
I had heard that the microwave oven was also an accidental invention. I think I am most grateful for Electricity! Makes it all work!
I love random facts and bits of information like this. Thanks for sharing!

I am signed up for your blog. The ice cream cone was invented by accident. The first one was cone shaped. It was first used at the St. Louis Worlds Fair. Ernst Hawmi was next to an ice cream vendor who ran out of dishes. He rolled a waffle to contain ice cream. Voila! Ice cream cone was born. 🙂

I am signed up for your blog. I am grateful for cars…today I had to drive to Escondido twice and San Diego once. I can’t imagine having to travel anywhere without having the convenience of a car to get there. (Those trips were an hour each one way without traffic).
I am thankful for calculators and computers. I am old enough to have gone through college without either of these “modern” inventions. How much easier it is today to get my work accomplished, since I am an accountant! I am pretty sure I am signed up for the blog, but for some reason, my blog list has not shown up in the last couple of days.
went I worked for the state of NY in Albany computers were something new it took up a whole room not like today.
I am already signed up…My invention would have to be my washing machine.
Joseph Marie Jacquard – 1801
➙ The Jacquard Loom was the first programmable loom, and led to more research in the field, eventually yielding the computer.
I subscribed. 🙂
Already signed up for your blog….love your books!
I saw this on a TV food show not long ago. One of the greatest things that I think was make by accident was corn flakes. The story told of boiled wheat being left out too long, then sent through rollers hopefully to made into long sheets but instead became flakes. When the flakes were toasted they became corn flakes. Thank you Kellogg brothers for your mistake which gave us one of our favorite breakfast cereals!
BTW, I had signed up for your blog!
Already signed up for your blog, I like post it notes I think it is one of the best invented items. With my job I used them almost every day,to make quick notes in the kitchen or items I need my director to pick up from the store.

interesting that people don’t follow instructions something invented by accident. One thing is invented accidentally is my seasoning Cookin With Flavor Original. I threw it together and people asked me to keep making it. Had to come up with a recipe to keep making it.
I’m already signed up for your blog, but I’m a few days behind on my email. After reading this post I had to do a little researh to find out what some of the inventions were that happened by accident and I couldn’t believe the number of things that were mentioned. By far out of all of them I have to say the microwave. Without it I would never have time to read because my children would not know how to survive without it and would need me to cook for them constantly. With four growing boys and a little girl you wouldn’t believe the amount of food the boys go through. Its utterly insane. Thank you for the accidental invention!!
