Ask me what my favorite book is, and while I have many I love, I’d have to say my favorite is the Bible. I think some of my favorite sections are the narratives in the Old Testament. I always read a passage and ask myself, “What does this reveal about God?” Amazing answers to that question . . . the attention God pays to his people never fails to astonish me.
What’s your favorite book—and why?
I’ll be giving away a copy of Amish Values for Your Family to one person who does the following (and let me know in a comment):
- That you’ve signed up for my blog
- And answered the above question
I’ll announce the winner next Friday! Good luck.

Hi Suzanne,
I previously have signed up for your blog and receive e-mail postings ~ my all time favorite is Heidi by Johanna Spyri, also a book for all ages and generations. Timeless. Being a visual person, I have always remembered the descriptions that brought me to the different smells; sausage and bakery in Frankfurt, the fresh mountain air ~ where she slept, and goat milk and cheese as she and her grandfather forged a friendship. So good.
And ~ Psalm 119:111 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House

It is difficult to pick just one favorite book but 2 that I just recently read are on my favorites list – The Governess of Highland Hall by Carrie Turansky, & A Christmas Gift for Rose by Tricia Goyer 🙂
Suzanne , my favorite book is also the Bible because it is my guide through life. I need God’s wisdom, direction .and peace in my life. I admit I struggle through life at times but even in darkest hours I can go to God’s word and look for peace. Frankly I don’t know how I could be without it it’s my lifeline. I already receive your blog by email. Blessings
I think your favorite book is the book of Matthew in the Bible. Next to the Bible my favorite books are The Robe and The Big Fisherman by Lloyd C. Douglas. After wearing out paperbacks I found both books in a yard sale & bought them both in hardback. I loved the movie and the books are better.
I forgot to tell you, I’m already signed onto your blog and for your newsletter. I have to keep up with one of my favorite authors.
I signed up and I had a feeling the “bible” was your favorite. Would love to win this book 😀
The book of Ruth
One of my favorite non-inspirational books is Little Women. when I was a little girl I always wanted to be Jo March. She was not a girly girl which I wasn’t, I never made that step, she liked to act, I’m always on stage, and she wrote stories, I write stories too. I still haven’t met Professor Baer. My favorite story in the Bible is the story of Hannah. I find her to be such an inspiration on a daily basis.
My favorite book is the Bible, because no matter how many times you read it you will always learn something new!

I have a new favourite book, The Chronicle of the Hutterian Brethren (available in German and English). I’ve read it before, but this past August I had the privilege of taking a Hutterite History Tour through Europe, visiting many place where Hutterites lived, suffered severe persecution because of their faith and consequently died. This tour really made our history come alive for me and has given me a renewed appreciation what my forefathers had to endure while standing up for the truth.

I have previously signed up for your blog. My all time favorite book from teenage years on has been Gone With the Wind. From things happening in my life, it showed me that you can keep on keeping on. I was a Christian then but the Bible and my faith didn’t come alive for me until my 30s so now I would agree with you that the Bible is my favorite book with its wisdom for every circumstance. Just finished a study of Psalm 23 bringing home the number of times the personal pronouns of I, me, and my were used. Truly, He is MY shepherd!
I don’t have one particular book but I love reading Amish fiction because I love to read about the Amish values, customs and religion. Amish fiction s so relaxing to me.
My favorite book of all time would have to be “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss. I think when my father read this to me, complete with different voices for each character, I developed my love of reading, which I have to this day! It opened up my imagination and the world of books to me!
I’ve subscribed. One of my favorite books (I can never nail it down to just one lol) is the 1 Samuel in the Old Testament. I’ve just always loved following the story of David and everyone else it includes. And I love that it starts with Hannah’s answered prayer. 🙂
My favorite book ever is “Leota’s Garden” by Francine Rivers.
