Last week’s “Day in My Life” post focused on one side of August 1st: my daughter’s engagement.
There was another side to August 1st: my daughter-in-law and son had their first baby! Confused? It was a crazy day. In fact, let’s back up a little.
I started the day in Portland, Oregon, at a Church and Synagogue Library Conference. I was speaking on Thursday, the last night of the event. The next morning, I planned to catch the first flight back to SF Bay Area (Lord willing!) to get home pronto. I knew that James (soon-to-be-fiance) had planned to propose on Friday, August 1st, and that he had arranged for his parents to arrive at our home in the afternoon for a special dinner. But what I didn’t know, until I woke up at 4 am and read a text, that Amanda’s (daughter-in-law) labor had begun! Her actual due date was Friday, August 1st…but when does a baby ever show up on her due date? Hardly ever! Except for my little granddaughter…
Amanda labored all day and Reagan Grace arrived at 7:15 pm! Absolutely beautiful.
We finished up the engagement dinner and arrived at the hospital to meet the baby. It felt like we were in a movie!
Steve is getting the first look at his little granddaughter.
Amanda’s parents, Mike and Luanne, holding their little granddaughter.
To keep the fun going, my son Tad and his fiance, Sarah, flew in. They had planned to arrive to celebrate the engagement. Little did they know that they would be meeting their new niece!
It was actually hard to go to bed that night. Talk about a feeling like your cup runneth over. It was overflowing! Such joy and happiness, all packed into one special, memorable day. A blessed day.

God was sure full of fun and blessings in August..on August 13 I drove from my home to where my daughter and her dad live 4 hours away as she was in labor (1 1/2 weeks early). Took her to the hospital at 2am, text my other daughters and her sister (1 1/2 weeks overdue at that time) says “I’m headed to the hospital also! Both delivered beautiful baby girls an hour apart (not counting time zone difference).
How precious those babies are! I am missing mine something awful! She is so beautiful!
So happy for all!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your life in a day with pictures! Your granddaughter is beautiful! I know you know that, but take it from a gammy of 6 beautiful ones, she is perfectly formed beautiful little face. The pictures were so good, I could see the little wrinkles across her eyes. So sweet! You are very Blessed Suzanne! God Bless your family, and enjoy every minute!
Congratulations on your grandbaby. Nothing like them. My youngest granddaughter will be 3 on 17th of this month. My grandchildren are special as well as my kids and son-in-laws.
Congratulations on your sweet little granddaughter Reagan Grace. She is just adorable; but then you’d already figured that out! LOL 🙂
