I spent a very rainy Saturday at a school book fair called 2014 Children’s Book Author and Illustrator Fair in Redwood City. Lots of great authors and artists were there to give presentations and sign books for kids. I was there to represent “The Adventure of Lily Lapp” series.
My friend Railey was my very excellent assistant for the day! She really was amazing. When she grows up, I want to hire her as my research assistant. But . . . I suspect she’ll be too busy writing her own books. Maybe I could work for her . . . .
Some familiar faces—my son-in-law’s siblings, Carrie and Brad!
Jacob and Rebecca—fans of great literature.
I was seated next to Annie Barrows, author of the children’s series “Ivy and Bean,” and co-author of “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.” I’ve heard her speak once, so it was such a privilege to be seated next to her and have a few minutes to chat now and then.
The best part of the day was to be surrounded by children and parents who are passionate about reading! Really, really impressive to me. Despite TV and the internet and all the visually bombarding distractions that children face . . . books are still beloved.

Thank you Suzanne. I enjoy reading your blogs. I have enjoyed reading and writing ever since I could read and write. Blessings to you!
Thanks for the chance to win such a great book.
Suzanne, Thank you for post. It really is a Blessing to see kids want to read and be excited about it. A big shout out to adults who inspire them!
So fun to be with the children and get them interested in reading!
Blessings
I just love your blogs, sometimes I feel truly inspired by them. I also want to thank you for the phone app of Amish Wisdom, truly there are some days they really hit the spot. I would love to win this book for myself and my grandchildren. Thanks for doing the giveaway.
It is a true blessing to see youngsters enjoy the joyous world of reading.
Where else can you travel the world without leaving your home? Or be anything you can imagine from a dragon to a princess and even the president. Only in a book!
So true, opens up new worlds
my favorite book to read to my kids are Chicka-chicka Boom-Boom
I love to read Dr. Seuss with the grandchildren. We read “Hop on Pop” quite a lot and when each of them can read it mostly by themselves, they get to write their name and the date in Memaw’s copy. It will be a great keepsake for me!
My almost 9 year old son keeps wanting me to read Adult Amish books to him. There are not to many children’s Amish fiction books for him to read. We do have some Amish that come to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market and I have explained the basics to him. He has just started chapter books and I would love to introduce your Adventures of Lily Lapp series to him. Even though it is mainly about a little girl, I would hope that he would enjoy these. He likes Little House.
When my son was small, my favorite book to read to him was Mortimer K. Saves the Day. I think I liked it more than he did.
Hard to narrow down but I do love “Love You Forever”.
My kids love their “Jesus” books. They are 3 & 4. I let them pick out the bedtime book, and my son always says he wants his “Jesus” books. We have a series of 10 books that have the stories of the bible in them. I love that they want to have them read to them over and over again.
when my first grandson was little….he often wanted read “Franklin’s Valentines”. I think Babar was a favorite of my own boys. Too long ago
to be sure.
Sounds like a great day!
I love to see children enjoy being read to and then learning to read for themselves. My whole family are bookworms!!
