What is the smartest writing advice you ever got?
Keep doing it. While you wait for others to critique, while you wait for agents and editors to respond, while you wait for anything¸ continue writing the next thing and the next.
What was your biggest break?
I had a serendipitous meeting with an agent at a writers’ conference, which led to representation, which led to a contract. I didn’t have the guts to approach that agent, but circumstances put us together, and the rest was history!
I’m inspired by…
Wide open spaces, chocolate, travel, coffee, the desert, good books and movies
My great adventure has been…
Traveling the world while researching my books. I’ve seen some awesome stuff! Athens, Pompeii, Rome, the Pyramids, to name a few.
The one thing I hope to discover is…
How to maximize the adventure of my life while remaining healthy and balanced.
If I could go anywhere, it would be…
I’ve been lots of places, but at the top of my list right now is Morocco.
Describe yourself in one word:
Driven.
If your house were on fire, what one thing would you save?
Photo albums.
What has been your most surreal, “pinch-me-I’m-dreaming” moment so far?
Climbing to the top of the inside the Great Pyramid in Egypt, standing over the sarcophagus in the granite burial chamber of Pharaoh Khufu.
What drives you to succeed?
I’m not driven to succeed, really, but I am driven to have an impact. To make the most of my time here.
Best Surprise:
I don’t like surprises!
Best Saturday Afternoon Read:
Something historical and adventurous, especially time travel.
Best Way to Break a Sweat
I’m currently attempting the “Couch to 5K” program, hoping to run a 5K in a few months. Running’s never been my thing, so that’s how I’m sweating right now!
Best Indulgence:
Extra-dark chocolate and a cup of coffee.
Best Advice:
Get clear of what’s blocking you, figure out your purpose, and pursue it with passion!

Tracy L. Higley started her first novel at the age of eight and has been hooked on writing ever since. Her lifelong interest in history and mythology have led Tracy to extensive research into ancient lands and shaped her desire to shine the light of the gospel into the cultures of the past.
Higley has authored eleven novels, including Garden of Madness and Isle of Shadows, and has traveled through Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Italy, researching her books. She is thrilled to bring readers adventures set in the ancient past, and it’s her hope that in escaping with her, readers will feel they’ve walked through these deserts, explored ruins, felt the white sand and blue sea under their feet and met with the Redeeming God who is sovereign over the entire drama of human history.

I’ve been following Tracy on Facebook and her blog for a while now, but I have yet to read any of her books (the problem with having a monstrously-long “to read” list). “The Queen’s Handmaid” sounds really intriguing.
Very curious about this book!
I am intrigued by this one!

This is one of many books on my TBR list. It sounds awesome!
This book looks so good, I can’t wait to read it! !! As much as I love Amish books I really like historical as well and this is one of my favorite periods to read about! !!!
Historical is another great book genre. I am a genealogist and so therefore, really enjoy all things historical.
I agree with the author on some of her likes especially the chocolate, coffee, and good books choices but I absolutely hate wide open spaces.
Great interview. Would love to win the book. Sounds like a great read.
Hi Tracy! Thanks for taking time for this interview! Wow…to be inside a pyramid. Wow, wow, wow! Love your dedication to “on-site research”–and appreciated your encouraging words to other writers. Warmly, Suzanne
