Tell us a little about your new book . . .
Forever Amish, the third novel in the Legacy of Lancaster Trilogy, unfolds in the same glorious area of Lancaster County, PA, as Leaving Lancaster and Pennsylvania Patchwork. Forever Amish can easily be a stand-alone, not reliant on the prequels. Some of my favorite characters continue along on the adventure, but my new characters are the last people one would expect to encounter. I can hardly wait for readers to meet them!
How can readers find you and your books?
At bookstores and online book retailers. Forever Amish is available through: Amazon.com, Christianbook.com, Lifeway Christian StoresParable Christian Stores.
Anything new for you on the book horizon?
I am tinkering with a new series. Well, I’m beyond the tinkering stage and enjoying every moment!
What is the smartest writing advice you ever got?
I can’t remember if someone told me this or if I made it up: Make rewriting your friend. Rewriting can actually be a lot of fun if you look at it that way and it’s extremely important, unless you’re a genius who gets the story down correctly the first go-round.
Why do you write?
I absolutely love it! If I could figure a way to write a new book five days a week I would. Too many ideas; not enough time!

My great adventure has been…
Driving clear across country twice (two round trips) to live with my grandmother on her 160-acre gentleman’s farm in CT.
If your house were on fire, what one thing would you save?
In this scenario, I assume all humans are safe. After owning dogs and various furry critters most of my life at this moment I have no pets, so I’d grab my laptop, which I laughingly call my best friend.
What has been your most surreal, “pinch-me-I’m-dreaming” moment so far?
The day, in my thirties, a pastor explained to me that all I had to do was say, “Yes,” because the Lord had already invited me into fellowship with Him. After a lifetime of not even contemplating God’s existence, something inside me clicked.
What drives you to succeed?
I’m competitive in nature, but not at the risk of squashing other people. I love it when others succeed. So, I win both ways!
Best Indulgence:
Coffee laced with whole whipping cream and dark-chocolate.
If you could give your ten-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Quit caring what others think about you! Somewhere along the line, I’ve heeded that advice.

Kate if we were out at a cafe our drinks in no way would get mixed up. I hope not anyway. I have a horrible gag reflex that declares coffee and dark chocolate are not my friends. It doesn’t like tomatoes and ginger either. 😉
If our drinks and candy doesn’t get mixed up, we could have a lovely friendship, Jennifer. You are not alone; many of my friends don’t like dark chocolate, although they do drink coffee. I recall pointing out to one of my sons that a girlfriend, whom I’d known since grade school and was much more popular than I was, was actually not happier or cuter as an adult. Kate, I was never popular, rich, smartest or prettiest while growing up in school. I was very quiet because of it. I was always told to be who you are and not let the others intimidate me. It took years but I learned and I share that with all my children. I do see some of those rich, pretty, smart girls I grew up with, living in the shoes I did as a young girl.

Jan, I must admit I suffer from relapses every now and then. Years ago. I framed a photo of myself as a three-year-old and keep it on my bureau as a reminder. Sometimes, when I belittle myself or compare myself to more “successful” people I say, “You wouldn’t speak that way to a little girl, would you?” Because, inside still lives that sweet little child.
