Two weeks ago, I traveled to Millersburg, Ohio and stayed one night at Garden Gate Get-A-Way. It’s a beautiful bed-and-breakfast tucked down a peaceful country lane. Amish buggies roll past the B&B, as well as Amish children, who run up the road with their Igloo lunch coolers, heading to and from the schoolhouse.
The owners, Carol & Herb Steffey, are ready to retire to Florida and are offering their business (lock, stock and barrel), to the winner of a 200-word essay contest. This is your chance! If you’ve ever wanted to run a bed-and-breakfast, toss your name in the hat for Garden Gate Get-A-Way! The property has a lovely location, the buildings are in mint condition–very well-cared for and updated with every convenience, from jacuzzi tubs to big screen TVs. And the warm and friendly owners have created a loyal following. The owner’s part of the house has a very private feel, too, with a separate entry. Wise planning for sustainability.
Amish tourism is an added bonus to the location for this B&B. Tourism is exploding in the Berlin/Millersburg area of Holmes County–I heard it’s the top destination spot of Ohio. I hadn’t been there in a few years and the difference was profound. A thriving economy of tourism.
Plus, the Amish make for delightful neighbors to Garden Gate Get-A-Way. They’re right across the road! And up the road. And down the road. The B&B is in the heart of Amish country.
The essay contest closes on October 15th. Entry fee is only $150. I’m tempted, myself. As I sat on the back porch of one of the cottages, looking at the mist that swept through the valley, at the horses in the pasture…I didn’t want to leave! Scroll down for details for the contest. And feel free to share this info with a friend. Someone out there is in for a wonderful, exciting new chapter of life!
