One of the best parts of writing books is the research that goes on behind the scenes. I took a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine with my sister and we covered the island! We tried everything–even went out on a lobster boat.

You can learn a lot about a place through studying it and reading up and interviewing people and watching YouTubes or documentaries…but there’s something about being there that makes it real. The scent of the air, the terrain, the trees and plants, the people. Some of my favorite moments are the quirky small things about daily life in Maine that we stumbled on.

Then there’s the natural beauty of coastal Maine. In most towns, the church steeple always held the highest point. And those views! Ocean and sailboats at every turn.

Bar Harbor, Maine should be on everyone’s bucket list. It will surpass your expectations. Acadia National Park, an enormous popover at Jordan’s, a sunrise on Cadillac Mountain. Go in the summer, of course! You’ll be so glad you went.
