By now, most of you know that my dad passed away on the morning of January 1st, 2012.

Another friend, whose mother passed away this last summer from Alzheimer’s, wrote that he believed his mother was singing away in Heaven, and now she remembered all the words.

My friend Deb wrote that the thing about Alzheimer’s was that you lose a parent twice–first to the disease, second to the grave.

All so true.

When I told my friend Kim, her first response was: “The first blessing of the new year. Your dad is HOME.”

I am so grateful for my dad, for so many reasons. And grateful to God that Dad is released from a ravaging illness that had cost him so much. Grateful that I will see him again, fully restored. “First off, you must not carry on over them like people who have nothing to look forward to, as if the grave were the last word. Since Jesus died and broke loose from the grave, God will most certainly bring back to life those who died in Jesus”(1 Thessalonians 4:13, the Message).

So, Dad, I’m looking forward to our next conversation. I love you!
