My fondest memories are being with my entire family on this special day!
After losing both parents, I try to remember traveling to visit them at my Home Sweet Home about 45 miles away. Mom’s cooking favorite dishes is really missed, No one can cook like my Mom😏 but I know she would want me to enjoy being with other family members.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!
One of my favorite and most funny memories involves the always highly anticipated annual Christmas Day lunch at my paternal Grandparents’ house, which included the 4 children and 9 grandchildren. There were always an “adult” table and the “children/teenager” table. When my husband and I married, even though we should have graduated to the adult table, there was no extra room, and so, with much laughter, we were relegated to the junior table (which in actuality was two card tables covered with tablecloth). Actually, I think we had more fun!
My favorite Christmas memory is one that became a tradition. It was my Dad always arriving very early so he could go down the hall saying “Hohoho Santa’s been here!” and waking up my daughter to go see what was under the tree. It was a tradition that we all loved – including his granddaughter. When she had just turned a teenager, she actually woke up very early to get dressed and fixed up (you know teenagers when it comes to having their photos taken) and then crawled back into bed just so Pappaw could “wake her up” Christmas morning like he always did. I cherish these memories since both Dad and our daughter are together now having Christmas in heaven. <3
Although our Christmas has changed over the years, it’s good to cherish old memories and create new ones. We just downsized and moved in our new home this year at the opposite end of the state. Been a lot of adjustments including this Christmas decorating since there’s not the room to put up the seven Christmas trees of the past. However, we will have new experiences and joys this year as we celebrate Christmas making new traditions and memories.
I’m 59, have been married 41 years now. But one of my childhood memories was that each Christmas Eve, Mom always had one special present for us to open. It was always a new pair of Pajamas or Nightgown. I think I was an adult before I caught on to the reason, because we then had to put it on and wear that night so that we had pretty new Pajamas for the pictures on Christmas morning.
My father was military and deployed for several Christmases while either in the Dominica Republic and the two tours of Vietnam. No matter what, Christmas was always special. Because of being military and stationed in so many places, we didn’t go see relatives or Grandparents for Christmas. Even after my father retired, because we lived 8 hours away in NC and they were in MD and WV.
Now, I live in TN and have almost all my married life and don’t see my parents or siblings on Christmas or most holidays. We have 2 adult daughters with six granddaughters living here in TN. Our son is military and he and his family are stationed in MO. He has 2 daughters and 2 sons.
