I have a question for you . . . if you could create a perfect day for yourself, what would you do?
I think I’d fill it with all my favorite-yet-ordinary things.
Morning: Good, productive writing hours in the quiet of the morning.
Mid-day: A couple sets of tennis with my friends. Some time in the garden with my silly dogs (who have taken to pulling and eating carrots from the carrot bed!).
Mid-afternoon: A long walk with those dogs–either using the time to catch up with a friend (my friend Kathy and I live an hour apart and schedule our walks for talk-on-the-phone times) or listening to sermon podcasts (love Tim Keller and Bill Hybels and Jon Ortberg).
Late afternoon: FaceTime my little grandchildren, just up from their naps (they like to peer into the phone as if they can climb into it. Alice in Wonderland-ish). Then dinner with my husband at our local Mexican restaurant. We order the same thing each time. The waiters don’t even ask what we want anymore.
Evening: Wrap up the day with a good book . . . and I’m set!
Just an ordinary, wonderful day.

The day would be nice to sit with one of your books and feel the breeze off the gulf, yes, all day. Ice tea in the afternoon and more reading into the sunset.
A perfect day for me would have to be a day when I was vacationing along the east coast–usually either Myrtle Beach, SC or Maine. It would start with a cup of coffee and a light breakfast, then a walk of several miles along the beach with my husband of 38 years–picking up seashells and bits of sea glass along the way.
We’d come back for lunch–usually salad and/or a sandwich, and spend the next several hours at poolside. I’d be reading in-between dips in the pool.
A lovely seafood dinner out, and another long walk on the beach at sunset. would round out my idea of a perfect day!
Um, spending time with our sons and their families is number one on my list. Unfortunately, it does not happen often, since both of them live far away from us.
Number two, starts as most Saturdays do-with my husband of 35 years playing tennis by 6 AM. I am on my laptop, checking emails, then on to my writing.
My husband returns around 9 and we put on our armored gear and head off on the motorcycle to the curvy roads in northern Arizona. Since I am the passenger, I begin our ride praying, thanking God for always being there for me, helping me through each day. Then I think about the book I writing. I plot, and plan the next several scenes. Sometimes an idea for a new book pops into my head. God got His message through my thick head and my helmet. 😎
After riding a couple of hours we stop for coffee. I pull out a couple of napkins, my husband automatically hands me his pen, and I write the thoughts that had been brewing in my mind.
Then we spend the next hour to two talking. This is the high light of my day, my week. Our time together, talking about things that are going on, the trials we face, work, making plans, and laughing. Laughter is so good for us- our hearts, souls, physical bodies, and our emotional health.
That is my time to enjoy my husband, unwind, and relax. Oh, I don’t want to forget the adrenaline from the ride.
I really miss our ride if we are unable to go. But God always helps me through the next week. To Him I am eternally grateful for the little things in life.
My perfect day would be spent by the water with a couple of good books and some wine, with something cooked on the grill for dinner and a totally sinful dessert!
How about morning/evening text conversations with your daughter who lives in China?!? 😉
My kids would let me sleep in. I’d enjoy coffee and breakfast with my family. Everyone would pitch in with chores, so we could enjoy an outing and come home to a clean home. We’d head out to a park with a picnic basket or go to a minor league ballgame near our town. We’d grill burgers or chicken for dinner and make s’mores in our fire pit. Then we’d have movie night.
My idea of a perfect day would be to first start off with reading God’s word. I work Mon. thru Fri. so I’m reading my Bible on my lunch hour but reading first thing in the morning makes me have a good rest of the day. It just makes me feel better when I can read before I do anything else. While I’m still in my pj’s, I would settle down with a good Amish fiction book. I would love to have a day with no housework, no cooking, sipping coffee & just getting to relax & have a lazy day. All of our girls are grown & on their own but with working five days a week, being busy with church where my husband pastors & trying to keep things done around the house, I’m still so busy sometimes I feel like I never get caught up. I would just like to have a me day sometimes.
My perfect day would be: Wake up early and get into God’s word. Go on a bike ride. and after that just curl up with a book till Lunch. Have lunch Then go outside and have a swim till dinner! Then after dinner a book till bed time:)
