There are very few things that wow us anymore. A toddler sees something as common as a bird in the backyard and it’s all he’ll talk about for weeks. I remember one rainy day in Seattle as I watched my three-year-old son, Gary, as he stared at a red-breasted robin in the backyard. Finally, he turned to me with a question on his small face. “Mom, do robins have pockets?”

It would be good to hold on to that sense of wonder because sometimes we don’t notice some of the most incredible things in the world. We walk by beautiful flowers and trees every day without looking at them. We take too much for granted. Like a red robin.
