There are very few things that wow us anymore. A toddler sees something as common as a bird in the backyard and it’s all he’ll talk about for weeks. I remember one rainy day in Seattle as I watched my three-year-old son, Gary, as he stared at a red-breasted robin in the backyard. Finally, he turned to me with a question on his small face. “Mom, do robins have pockets?”
It would be good to hold on to that sense of wonder because sometimes we don’t notice some of the most incredible things in the world. We walk by beautiful flowers and trees every day without looking at them. We take too much for granted. Like a red robin.
What scene, from nature, “wows” you?

I love rainbows. Every time it rains I am looking f for the rainbow.
The scene (or sound) that always wow’s me is crashing waves. I still remember hearing the waves crashing, through the trees (couldn’t see them) on my first trip to Costa Rica. Instantly a song was playing in my head. “Did you feel the mountain trimble? Did you hear the oceans roar? When people rose to sing of Jesus Christ the risen one.” I almost stopped and had church right there.
And yes I am signed up for your blog.
I love about 2 hours away from the Marble Mountain Wilderness and what fills me with awe is the view from near White Marble Mountain….and I am signed up to get your blog! Thanks!! chendryx(at)nctv(dot)com
I follow your blog…AND, what scenes from nature “WOW” me? Right now I’m enjoying the fall sunrises! They don’t last long–I grabbed my camera last week, and was a few minutes late on capturing the oranges filtering through the innoculous clouds…I LOVE winter–there’s something about a falling snow, and the freshness of everything white, and the stillness, as it immobilizes the movements of vehicles…
Spring time brings the promise of life, with it’s brilliant colors! (Was that flower there last year, and was it really that bright?)
And, then summer brings it’s own set of “wow” moments–sunsets; assortments of bloom times for various flowers; the harvest of gardens…
My favorite “wow” is from my childhood…a lake in northern Minn…still as glass, w/ a slight mist rising from the water…and then the call of the Minnesota state bird, The Loon…and then to watch as it lands on the water-leaving behind it’s own little wake of rippled water-and-it’s haunting call, reverberating off the water…
I follow your blog by e mail.
How do I name just one? I love early morning sunrise especially when it hits the fall tree tops making the colors glow or lifts the fog off the lake.
Thanks for reminder to take time to notice our world.
We have Canadian geese that fly in every fall and have chosen our pools to nest, lay their eggs, and raise their young. There are four couples that stay all winter long and in the Spring I get to see the tiny goslings dutifully follow their daddy and mother into the water for a swim or waddle about the place. It is so wonderful to watch them grow and when they are toddler size they one day fly off with their parents.
Yes, indeed, Suzanne, I did sign up for your blog, but not sure how to use it. Your Robin was soothing to my heart, for I’ve not seen a Robin around my area for years. What I enjoy the most is horses in a green pasture, content until he sees his master and is ready to go for a ride.
On another subject, I am enjoying For the Love of Dogs so very much. Can’t wait to read more of Samantha’s venture. She has just arrived at the school. Thank you for your generous gift. It keeps giving with each word I read. I read only a few pages at a time, for I am care giver to my 89 year old aunt who lives with us, and my husband who is ill. Your books are my “getaways”. Like being part of life outside my home. Your books are so refreshing for the heart.
Blessings,
Donna
Small wonders? I would have to go with a snowflake. I love walking in softly falling snow! It’s magical, peaceful, and beautiful! And to think that God made every flake different.

In the summer time I love to watch the birds and animals where I live out in the country specially the hummingbirds, they are so neat!!
What a hard question to answer! I live in beautiful Oregon and am centrally located between the coast and the mountains. There is so much beautiful scenery. I never cease to be amazed at the wonder of creation.

Thanks for the giveaway.
I have always love the beach, but looked at it differently when we took our kids there and my husband told them, ” you are standing on the edge of the continent.” I have never seen it the same way since.
Love your books, love the blog!
I love seeing cardinals in our trees. They seem exotic to me since they weren’t a native species to the area I grew up in. Now we seem to have several that put in an appearance each year. I get fascinated watching them and could watch for hours. I also recently found my first ever four-leaf clover. Then within a few steps I found a second one. That was an amazing experience. I subscribe through email.
I’m already subscribed to your blog. I love watching the birds, rabbits, squirrel and deer. I live in the country and have all kinds of wildlife around the yard. Most I don’t mind but could do without some of them too.
Mountains..whether in the desert, covered with snow and trees, it doesn’t matter..I just love how you can look at them throughout the day and they never look the same. Also have to comment, I love the robins having pockets question.
So there are these trees that grow here where we live called Lindens. In the spring they are covered with little flowers which attract countless bees. When the bees are there they come in such droves that the buzzing is so loud you can hear it from far away. And of course the sound is huge standing close to the trees. It is unbelievable to hear them! It totally amazes everytime. This totally wows me! I follow your blog and am signed up.
The array of beautiful colors that the sky paints as the sun rises and sets. Everything from a pale pink to a bright orange… yet all so beautiful. The colors span the spectrum of any famous painter, and they occur all at once in one event of the nature of God. Yes… sunrise and sunsets… always have and always will wow me!
I’m wowed by the tree branches waving gently in the breeze and the colorful leaves falling to earth.
I love beautiful Sunrises and Sunsets. Have seen so many beautiful things of beauty that GOD has given us to enjoy. I also love looking at beautiful Flowers and say HE blesses us with his artistic works. I tho’t this also when I looked at the Beautiful Teton Mountains while living in Jackson Hole, Wy. And Jackson lake below with the mountain reflecting in the lake. What a picture. In fact I have seen Calendars with that picture. So beautiful, but better to stand there and see it in person. And, to look up in the sky when you live out in the small towns and country where the skies are clear and see the million of Stars he has put there. Hard to look around and not see things that are beautiful. Maxie
That’s an amazing photo of the robin! There are so many of God’s creations that “wow” me but these ones that always blow me away are His beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and sky-scapes (if that’s a word). He’s the master artist and the sky is His canvas.
I’ve lived in the Northwest for 17 yrs., but I’m still amazed at the big elk that hang out in our yard. I just love sitting and watching them. I’m also signed up for your blog.
I think that when the leaves change colors in the fall, it is absolutely breathtaking 🙂
Baby birds chirping in a nest wows me. I am signed up for your blog. Thanks!
Wow! Just one? Not possible. Here are just a few on my list:
A leaf floating to the ground
Falling snow
The sound of waves crashing on the shore
Watching sunset/sunrise, especially oceanside
A starry night
A full moon over the ocean
A rainbow
