It’s been fascinating to watch the Olympics because China holds a spot in our hearts. Two nights ago, NBC did a segment on the kinds of foods Chinese eat. Interesting, but patronizing. The commentators were grossed out by the assortment of odd (to an American palate) foods–chickens’ feet, birds’ beak, fried scorpions, etc., without any explanation that eating those “spare body parts” can be traced to a culture that has experienced starvation.

Try feeding a billion people…then see what suddenly starts to look good!
