A Day in My Life: Thanksgiving

Suzanne Family, That's Life

Usually, our Thanksgiving meal is a huge event. Lots of family members head to our home or drop by during the day. Lots of love, lots of family, lots of good food.

But this year was looking a little different. Our children were scattered, well, all over the world! Tad spent the holiday in Colorado with his adorable girlfriend’s family. Meredith was in China . . . where the American tradition of a day off on the fourth Thursday of November hasn’t quite caught on. And Gary spent the day with his new in-laws.

So Steve and I took the opportunity to visit our daughter Lindsey and her family in Seattle. We made very special memories and created some new traditions! Besides the standard turkey, stuffing, and our family’s favorite potato casserole, Lindsey made roasted Brussel sprouts with balsamic vinegar. Dee-lish! Steve, with 3-year-old Blake’s help (chief bowl licker), made two flavors of ice cream: pumpkin chai and salted caramel. Wow, wow, wow. Friends from Lindsey and Josh’s church joined us for the meal. It was a wonderful day . . . with really good food. Hoping your day was filled with love and laughter.

We tried and tried and tried to get a family Christmas picture . . . but couldn’t get one with everyone looking at the camera at the same time. But that’s ok . . . Josh is participating in NoMowBer . . . and I’m not sure my daughter wants the mustache in the Christmas photo. 🙂

Blake brought this home from his church. The preschool teacher made it for the children!

Some of my favorite memories are taking Blake and Kaitlyn for walks around their neighborhood.

I introduced Kaitlyn to roasted kale. What a mess! But she liked it.

So I’m curious . . . what’s your favorite not-to-be-missed Thanksgiving dish? And is there a story behind it—like my Dad’s creamed onions? Submit your food stories for a chance to have it featured on my blog for a Friday Fun post and to win one of my books!
